Abeka Home School - 3 Options Homeschool Parents Need to Know About
50Abeka Curriculum
What you may not know....
The Abeka home school program has several options to choose from. Many parents just hear about one aspect of the curriculum and don’t know what else they have to offer.
1. Videos (DVD) with Abeka Academy - You can purchase the video homeschool DVD program in either the accredited or non-accredited version. The teachers in the videos are from Pensacola Christian Academy and the videos are shot in a classroom setting. They can be watched on a TV or on a computer.
With this program you purchase the videos, textbooks, teacher keys, and texts for the year all at one time. If you choose the accredited version, then Abeka generates report cards. If you choose the non-accredited program, then you keep track of all grades and transcripts.
2. Abeka Academy - This is a traditional accredited program for grades Kindergarten through grade six. You purchase all materials, teacher manuals, workbooks, tests, and textbooks for the year. Abeka issues the report cards and keeps track of the courses your child takes. There are no DVDs in this set, just workbooks and textbooks.
3. Abeka Books - This option allows you to purchase kits or individual books. All grading and record keeping is done by the parent. With this program you just purchase the materials and teach the children yourself using the teacher manuals if you decide to purchase them.
Abeka textbooks are about a year ahead of most public school classrooms, so purchase accordingly. Visual learners and children who enjoy filling out workbooks, tend to like Abeka. Children who prefer a more hands on approach, are late readers, or who have learning disabilities usually have a difficult time with Abeka on their grade level.
